Children's Magazine

The Children’s Magazine is a literary and arts magazine written by children, for children, from anywhere in the world. The first edition launches on Nowruz (around 20 March 2027) with the theme Home. We accept work from any child, in any language, of any age. Home looks different for every child, from a house to a tent to an igloo.

The submission form lives at dornafoundation.org/en/submit. Your child fills in what they made; you fill in your details as their parent or legal guardian, and you tick four short consent items. Nothing is stored until you confirm your email, so the process is fully guardian-authorised end to end.

We accept writing (stories, poems, jokes, puzzles), visual work (drawings, paintings, photos, comics), and anything else that doesn’t fit those categories. Any language. Any length. You can upload a file, paste text into the form, or both.

Four items on the form. Plain-English versions:

1. 1You are the child’s parent or legal guardian, and you’ve talked with them about submitting.
2. 2You allow us to store the child’s first name, age, country, and your contact details for the purpose of running the magazine. Encrypted at rest, deleted at your request.
3. 3You allow us to publish the child’s first name (only) alongside their work if it’s chosen for the magazine. No last name, no address, no photograph of the child unless you’ve sent one explicitly as the submitted work.
4. 4You can withdraw the submission at any time by replying to any Dorna email. We’ll remove the work and the associated data within 30 days.

You get a confirmation email with a link to click. That’s the moment the submission actually enters our review queue; nothing is stored before you click. Once confirmed, a small editorial board of children (aged 10 and up, guardian-consented separately) reads and rates the submissions. Adult mentors do the final curation for print.

This is deliberately not framed as a contest for the children. Our commitment is that every submission that clears review reaches an audience: some through the printed magazine, all of them through the online archive on dornafoundation.org (credited to the child’s first name, per your consent), and some through public readings, partner outlets, or events as opportunities arise. No child’s work is discarded, and no child is told they “lost.” We reach out to you before publication in any channel.

• Data encrypted at rest. Names, emails, and any free-text notes are stored encrypted on our servers using the same pattern we use for donor and volunteer data.
• No third-party sharing. Submissions are not shared with advertisers, brokers, or generative AI training sets. Anyone reading them is either a Dorna board member, a paid contributor working directly on the magazine, or a member of the children’s editorial board (also under guardian consent).
• GDPR / AVG (EU), COPPA (US), and equivalent local rules apply to any child anywhere. Reach out to info@dornafoundation.org if you want a copy, correction, or deletion of any data we hold.

Your family keeps all rights to the work. Dorna receives a non-exclusive licence to publish it in the magazine and on the Dorna website. You can revoke that licence at any time in writing; we honour it in the current edition and remove from the website within 30 days.

Every family who submits receives a link to the online magazine when edition one launches on Nowruz 2027. That’s automatic; you don’t need to do anything. Your child gets to read the whole issue whether or not their piece was chosen for print.

If you’d also like a physical printed copy, you can subscribe at any time by emailing info@dornafoundation.org with the subject “Physical copy request” and the child’s name. You can do this now, or after the issue is announced, or six months later, whenever suits you. We’ll do our best to fulfil every request and we’ll be in touch about delivery.

The print run is funded by donations, not by charging families. Every physical copy we mail is a cost the foundation absorbs so no child is priced out of holding their own work in print.

If you can, please consider a small donation at dornafoundation.org/en/donate. Every gift helps us mail a paper copy to another family who couldn’t otherwise afford one, or reach a school or library that will pass the magazine along.

This is especially meaningful if you’re requesting a physical copy for your own child: your gift helps make sure another child, whose family might not be able to donate, gets the same experience.

If the child’s work is on paper (a drawing, a painting, a scrap-book page) and scanning it at home isn’t practical, you can mail the original to one of our per-country drop-off points. We scan it, add it to the review queue, and return the original on request.

If neither country is convenient, write to us and we’ll help you find a way. We don’t want the form to be the reason a child’s voice doesn’t make it in.

If your child would love to send something but the form or the mail is a barrier for whatever reason (no internet, no scanner, language, disability), write to info@dornafoundation.org and we’ll find another way.
